Salt Lake City sidewalk snow rule: 24 hours, 42 inches
Salt Lake City Code 14.20.070 makes it unlawful for the owner, occupant, lessor or agent of property next to a paved city sidewalk to fail to clear the entire length of that sidewalk, including corners and curb ramps. (source: Salt Lake City Code)
- Path: 42 inches wide, or the full width if the sidewalk is narrower.
- Deadline: within 24 hours after the hail, snow or sleet stops falling at the Salt Lake City Airport, as reported by the National Weather Service.
- Ice: remove to bare pavement, or make it as level as possible and treat it with ice melt, sand or similar material.
- Each day the sidewalk is not cleared is a new violation.
The city's snow page adds: clear the sidewalk on all sides of the property, and clear around fire hydrants, benches and parked cars too. (source: Salt Lake City)
