The Utah Driver License Division defines three e-bike classes with motors of no more than 750 watts. Class 1 assists only while pedaling and stops at 20 mph. Utah Code 41-6a-1115.5 lets you ride an e-bike on a path or trail designated for bicycles, and lets a local authority or state agency restrict e-bikes, or a class of e-bike, on its sidewalks, paths and trails. Check trailhead signs. (source: Utah State Legislature)

Under the version in effect on November 2, 2026, an individual under 16 may not ride a Class 3 e-bike, a rider under 14 needs direct parent or guardian supervision to use the motor on public property, and a rider under 8 may not use the motor on public property. That version is superseded May 5, 2027. (source: Utah State Legislature)
