Tree trimming licenses and city permits
Utah Admin. Code R156-55a-301an(1)(c) lists tree trimming or removal of tree stumps or trees as not requiring a contractor license. Section 301an(4) adds that other agencies' requirements still apply. (source: Utah Office of Administrative Rules)
Salt Lake City says permits are required before removing, pruning, or planting any tree in the public right of way, such as a park strip tree, and permits are issued only to arborists certified by the International Society of Arboriculture. Call SLC Urban Forestry at (801) 972-7818 to find out whether a tree is in the right of way. (source: Salt Lake City)
Other cities set their own tree rules. Ask your city before work on a street tree.
