How do I get rid of an old refrigerator or freezer in Utah?
Refrigerators and freezers hold refrigerant, so public sites charge a per unit fee to remove it before the metal is recycled.
- Salt Lake County: Salt Lake Valley Landfill, $20 per Freon containing unit plus the load fee. Commercial walk in units are not accepted.
- North Utah County: North Pointe transfer station in Lindon, $15 per unit refrigerant extraction fee.
- South Utah County: Dry Creek Transfer Station in Spanish Fork, an additional $15 per refrigerator.
- Salt Lake City homes with city waste service: Call 2 Haul picks up refrigerators. Remove the doors or tape or belt them shut.
